Oregon House Bill 2845, signed into law in 2017, started K-12 social studies standards down the path of Critical Race Theory.
The HB2845 called for an advisory group, which handed its report off to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), that then ran a condensed series of workshops during the pandemic to create the 2021 Social Science Standards Integrated with Ethnic Studies (and applied CRT...)
It began with a noble cause - increasing engagement & achievement in minority groups.
This bill called for a diverse advisory group to be created that will identify gaps in social studies standards and provide recommendations for new standards.
Once established, this group immediately re-defined ethnic studies using the lens of Critical Race Theory and went to work.
See top of page 11 for the re-definition of ethnic studies. They literally began by changing the desired outcome to match their agenda. How novel and convenient!
