We feel like the pace of life has increased over time. We want to be more present with our children. We really do care about how their day at school was, but don't always have time to listen to every detail. We want to provide them all the love and support they need to be successful.
Hopefully we have been able to show you that critical theory is just what the name explicitly state: THEORY. It is not PROVEN. However, those pushing for it are very adept at hiding its true form behind more appealing or ambiguous terms like Social Justice, equity, anti-racism, and the like. Do you want to be a racist or an anti-racist? Given only those two choices, why wouldn't we pick the latter?
Below are our recommendations for how you can take action now. Why now? Because we said so. Just kidding! Seriously though, decisions are being made every day in school districts across the country: staff trainings, new curriculum, and even what individual teachers decide to do on their own. There is no better time to act than now!
Look for statements or pledges in school & district communications that include terms like: anti-racism, dismantling systems of power, institutional or systemic racism, historically oppressed and marginalized people/groups, white privilege, and white supremacy. You also have the right also ask the teachers to see what they are teaching your children.
Just search the web for your school district name & "school board" and you should find details on who is on your school board and how to contact them. You should also look for the board meeting schedule and ways to submit comments. Tell them how you feel as THEY ARE THERE TO REPRESENT YOU, NOT THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.
We are behind, but catching up quickly. The activists on both sides are already doing battle, so we must work together for the silent majority to become heard.
Connect with other parents and community members to share resources, experiences, and why we need to act now!
